Chelsea manager Antonio Conte hails their special run as their win over Middlesbrough sends the Blues top

Costa's close-range volley after 41 minutes was the difference against Middlesbrough

Antonio Conte says he cannot believe the transformation which has taken Chelsea to the top of the Premier League.

The Blues boss admits he would have struggled to forecast their six-game winning run after a humbling 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in September.

Chelsea, though, have not dropped a point since, keeping six clean sheets on the spin for the first time in six years.

After two defeats against Liverpool and Arsenal it was not easy to believe we’d have six wins in a row without conceding any goals,’ said Conte after Diego Costa scored the only goal at Middlesbrough on Sunday.

‘But it is difficult to say we are now favourites for the title. If you look back just one-and-a-half months you will see we had those two defeats. After those games Chelsea was not a favourite or a team that could challenge for the title.

‘So I want to wait until the end of the first half of the season before setting any target.
